Long-distance move from Boulder, CO to Chicago, IL

THE WORST MOVERS EVER!!!!

Simply put, using Purple Heart Moving was the WORST experience ever!!! First take note that Purple Heart is just a ‘middle-man’ so they are marking up the costs of the movers they use. They also like to quote you one price, then steadily increase it before the move and finally hit you with a bill at the time of moving saying the estimate was just wrong. So in the end the move cost about 30% more than quoted to start. The move also took over ONE MONTH!!!!! Yep you read that correct, it took a month to get our belongings. And when we finally received our items (after many many many phone calls and emails), they damaged multiple items, the broke some items, and they even lost/stole a box with a center channel speaker, a receiver and high-end speaker cables. In the end, after filing a dispute, we received $300 – what a joke. So basically here is the racket, they can ‘lose’ a box (steal it I mean), and then since they only pay you pennies on the dollar value, the movers can pocket the items and sell them to make more off you. Oh and they even asked for a 20% tip for all of this nightmare.

So here is how you move. DO NOT USE A MOVING COMPANY, especially not Purple Heart if you do. Go rent yourself a moving van, then pay a handful of buddies say $500 a piece to help you pack up, drive to your new home and unpack. You will save thousands of dollars, less items will be broken, and it will not take a full month to get your items after you arrive in your new home.

Long-distance move from New Mexico to North Carolina

Joseph.

It was a really stressful situation having to move from New Mexico to Maryland. I just got another military and it was time to go home and I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I got there. It was a two and a half day bus ride from Clovis to Baltimore and I was exhausted having to go through the whole process and really just wanted to get it over with. Thank goodness I called these guys. Seriously, they came over packed everything and it was on its way. The professionalism they showed made me feel comfortable letting them handle my stuff. You don't always know what other people are going through so the fact that they were respectful and careful with my things really help me out in time where I was feeling super stressed. I not only recommend this company but I highly recommend this company to anybody.

Long-distance move from Boston, MA to Sugar Land, TX

UTTERLY HORRIBLE: they abandoned the contract unilaterally.

AVOID this HORRIBLE moving group altogether. We had a binding contract set on May 29, 2018 to move a studio from Boston to Houston, $2700, with a set pick-up window and they BAILED, leaving me scrambling now to find assistance in the busiest moving season. It's ridiculous that they aren't fined fees just as a customer would if the roles were reversed- what's the point of this 'BINDING' contract? I truly hope they get punished for unnecessary stress they have caused me and others that I see below.

My move window was supposed to be June 24-26, 2018. After I called and emailed numerous times, they told me the driver would pick up the stuff on June 26, the driver, Isaac with UJ Transport LLC, says 5-6pm. After I reach out to the him numerous times, I finally hear from him at 4:45pm stating that he cannot come to Boston until 9pm. He then proposes to do it first thing in the morning (7am) the following day, the 27th, even though I had to again rearrange my work schedule again. When I called him at 6:40am, he isn't even aware of the job and says he can't do it and to call the company! For the remainder of the day, the Purple Heart including its manager, Makena Rhodes, were incompetent with poor communication and failed to find a replacement driver. Also a FALSE CLAIM on their website: they DO NOT have 24/7 customer service.

We apologize that we were unable to dispatch a truck within your pickup window. We are in our busiest time of the year and we do our best to get all of our jobs serviced. However, there are some circumstances that are out of our control. Our company has offered you a full refund of your deposit and has also provided the option to push back your dates by a few days so we can continue working on getting a truck out to you.
We apologize for the inconveniences and the lack of communication between the carrier and our company has been addressed.
The binding estimate is based off the inventory provided to us, this can change if a customer's inventory increases.
We do have a 24/7 customer service department, we have 2 different extensions for normal business hours and after hours. This information is provided to our customer's immediately after they book their move. Again, we have a full staff but we are in a very busy time right now. If a customer's leaves a voice message with their contact information they will promptly receive a call back.

Long-distance move from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Las Vegas, NV

The worst company in the world. I would give this a 0 Star if I could!

I am filing a complaint against them with the Attorney's General Office. This is truly a "Bait and Switch" scam and they need to be stopped. All they do is scream at you to intimidate you, and they change everything about the payment and how to get paid. If anyone uses this company again, they should have their head examined. The positive reviews have to be false. This is the worst experience in my life. I would never, ever do business with this company of their Van Lines called Vanlines USA. I went to the storage and I will be lucky to have everything delivered and not broken. Moving is stressful enough, this company made it horrible.

Purple Heart provides our customers with estimates based off the inventory which is provided to our moving coordinators. We do our best to ensure the inventory on file is as accurate as possible by going over it multiple times with the moving coordinators as well as our quality assurance department.

The carrier has provided this customer with a discount around $300. Our company has also offered a refund in the amount of $150 which the customer has declined that offer.

Our customer service department has spoken to this customer multiple times and sent over recorded phone calls per his request.

Long-distance move from Cape Girardeau, MO to Gainesville, FL

Rip Off Company.

My fiance and I were needing to move quickly, I left finding a moving company up to him, and he thought he had found a really great company. They could move his stuff quickly, they walked him through the estimated cost. It was a little pricier than what I would have gone with, but I thought 'hey, if they are able to get everything moved down quickly, it would be worth it.' The original quote was for $2500.
When the movers came, they showed up in a semi, and could not make it up the hill that we lived on. They said that nothing was packed the way that it was 'supposed' to have been, even though we followed the directions from Purple Heart. They then were going to charge us an additional $3000 dollars!. When I found out about this, I said to get our deposit back, we would find a different company. However, according to the guy that was there to move our stuff, we were not able to get our $1000 deposit back, because we signed the paperwork for them to come move our stuff.
Long story short, we begged our family to help us offset the cost because we were now stuck in this contract. They gave us a new quote of $3500, and said they would come back another time with a different truck, but they needed our next payment now.
We handed over the money, different people came the next time, loaded everything up, they were friendly people, hard working, I don't have a single complaint about them.

HOWEVER, we were told by Purple Heart, By the first moving company HQ, and by the third group of people, that our stuff would be there between 3-5 business days.

Day 5 was yesterday, still no contact. We called Purple heart just to see where our stuff was, and they told us they were not sure of its location, but that it would be there within 21 days.

This whole process has been a nightmare. Not only did this process make me never want to use a moving company again, but it has made me never want to go through the process of moving again. I'm not saying that this company is fake, because it is obviously a real company, but it is not a reputable place of character.
There is no transparency at all with this company, and we spent all of our savings just to be ripped off. If you are considering this company, don't.

We apologize for the issues you had throughout your move, we have notes on your file from 4/17 that you spoke with our quality assurance manager, Kelly and she went over packing materials with you and wrote a note in your file that you would be doing all packing yourself. She then sent you over the revised estimate after adding 1 item and there was still $0 in packing materials.
After reviewing the paperwork, which was sent to you already, it looks like you had $180.00 in packing materials along with a total of 746 cubic feet. We are still within your delivery window as well, your first available delivery date was 4/24.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service department.

Long-distance move from Sarasota, FL to Nashville, TN

Do not use this company.

This company is a total fraud. Recently had a move from Sarasota Fl. to Nashville TN. Purple Heart misrepresented itself from the beginning -for they are not a moving company they are a moving broker. Yes- they used the same ole line--we hire veterans who need employment. Believe me --they have no veterans because they would not tolerate screwing people like this company does. They out sourced to a company called Ocean Moving of whom were the bait and switch company of all time. Total insult to veterans!!
Looking for the lawyer in Florida to give them a good dose of what its like to get screwed!! My contact is: billmason1108@att.net

PS: All these good reviews have been easily tracked to only several IP addresses---so you know the severity of the screwing your getting if you use them!!

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to Memphis, TN

Worst move ever.

I have moved many, many times. I have moved internationally and I have moved from one state to another. I have used major moving companies and I have used local moving companies. But never have I had as bad experience as I had recently with Purple Heart moving group. When I called Purple Heart, they told me that they support veterans and that veterans were often involved in the moving process and I was very pleased to think that I would be supporting a company that helps veterans in the U.S. when it came time for my things to be packed up however I was greeted by two men originally from Bosnia who works for a company out of St. Louis Missouri called five star movers and they informed me that they were going to pack me on Sunday and then load There rented a Penske’s truck on Monday, Memorial day, and then meet me in my destination city two days later. This was far more rush than I had originally planned and it was very upsetting to have to organize everything at my end so quickly. Their justification was that they had another job immediately after dropping off my things and they were in a hurry. They went to Home Depot and bought boxes which they use to pack me. They charge me not by weight as I have usually been charged in the past, but by volume. So, they made sure there was plenty of open space and large boxes by not filling them all the way so that the volume of the move would be increased. They kept the weight lighter by not using much packing paper. Miraculously, they were careful to load the boxes onto the truck and nothing was damaged inside the boxes except for one glass. As for the furniture, I can’t say the same. They didn’t know how to wrap furniture properly nor did they know how to pack the truck to keep the furniture safe. As a result, two legs on a hall table were broken off. My dining room table has nicks on the corners on one end. When attempting to carry a wardrobe down the stairs of my originating house, they damage the wall and scrapes the front of the wardrobe with sheet rock. The lead mover’s attitude was “no big deal” And he even commented that the whole table was old and made of cheap wood. It happened to be about 20 years old and from Baker, a very fine American furniture manufacturer and he even commented that the whole table was old and made of cheap wood. It happened to be about 20 years old and from Baker, a very fine American furniture manufacture. A Sony flat panel TV that was working before I left is no longer working in my destination home. The error message I’m getting indicates a problem with the internal board. The movers complained when reassembling a set of oak bunkbeds and then handed me some of the screws, informing me that it was sufficiently sturdy as they have done it. All attempts that I have made to try to unscrew what they’ve done in order to properly assembled the bunkbeds have completely failed. I don’t know what they did to put those screws in, but I cannot get them to move. This is a set of bunkbeds I have taken apart and reassembled multiple times. When the movers left in a big hurry so they can get to their next job that they were in such a big rush to get to, they handed me paperwork and said “call the company and they’ll give you a form to fill out to get reimbursed for the damage.“ When I called five star moving group today, I was told that I could be paid no more than $.60 per pound per item that had been damaged. At the time of the move, I thought that the $.60 per pound was if everything was lost in the move that would be the coverage. I had no idea he referred to specific damage done to the furniture. That was because the movers paid no attention to really going over the details of the move because they were always in such a big rush. And a customer, at that point, can’t slow things down because it’s time to get on the road and get moving. The customer is essentially stuck in this case these were very unprofessional individuals handling my move. Purple Heart moving group is rated number three among best moving companies in the United States. But if they pass on their jobs to these other very unprofessional and poorly managed moving companies, their reputation cannot stand. I am severely disappointed that I chose to use them and I would never recommend them to anyone else.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $10765

Official company response

Purple Heart has sent this customer all of her paperwork from the carrier as well as offered a refund in the amount of $250.00 on June 29th, which the customer has not responded to.

We would be happy to review the carrier agreement that we have with her carrier to our dispatch department.

We do not handle claims but would be happy to provide the claims information for the carrier to the customer as well so she can be reimbursed for anything damaged, missing or broken. Our contract states all moves are included with standard cargo protection which is up to $10,000 at the reimbursement rate of $0.60 per pound, per article. Additional insurance would need to be purchased prior to pickup from a third party.

Long-distance move from Toledo, OH to San Francisco, CA

Updating original review from April 5, 2017.

Since I posted my poor review, Jessica the CEO of Purple Heart contacted me and has already refunded my original deposit and the $150 extra the driver made my daughter pay at delivery.

She has apologized to me and said that she would attempt to give me a full refund once she received my final payment from the carrier, and would follow through on our damage and loss claim. Jessica also told me that Purple Heart has discontinued their contract with their carrier Swift.

I believe that PH will follow through on their commitment to make things right and when that happens I will remove the earlier review.

Long-distance move from Jackson, MS to Chicago, IL

Low ball quote that will be no where near what you end up paying.

They will quote you a low ball rate -- but send a truck big enough for your move. They are only the broker -- so, it will be hit and miss on who you actually get. The movers were nice and I could tell they knew the drill -- they don;t discuss the cost or how much you were quoted. We already gave a deposit so they knew we were going to lose it if we went with someone else. Do not believe the quote you get -- double it at least! Use someone that comes out and reviews all your stuff.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $8700

Official company response

Our contract states we are a broker multiple times. We dispatch a truck with enough space allocated for your move based off the cubic feet we have you estimated for.
We only work with certain carriers that are required to abide by our rules and regulations in order to continue working with us. We require proper documentation of all of our carrier's information before we begin working with them as well as doing extensive research on their company.
The drivers would be required to complete a revision onsite as well, which they would go over all the costs and any increases in the remaining balance as well.
Our billing department does the best they can to work with our customers if pickup is refused, they typically offer to send another carrier out to you after going over your inventory again or offering a portion of your deposit back if you refuse a 2nd carrier.
