Long-distance move from Boulder, CO to Chicago, IL

THE WORST MOVERS EVER!!!!

Simply put, using Purple Heart Moving was the WORST experience ever!!! First take note that Purple Heart is just a ‘middle-man’ so they are marking up the costs of the movers they use. They also like to quote you one price, then steadily increase it before the move and finally hit you with a bill at the time of moving saying the estimate was just wrong. So in the end the move cost about 30% more than quoted to start. The move also took over ONE MONTH!!!!! Yep you read that correct, it took a month to get our belongings. And when we finally received our items (after many many many phone calls and emails), they damaged multiple items, the broke some items, and they even lost/stole a box with a center channel speaker, a receiver and high-end speaker cables. In the end, after filing a dispute, we received $300 – what a joke. So basically here is the racket, they can ‘lose’ a box (steal it I mean), and then since they only pay you pennies on the dollar value, the movers can pocket the items and sell them to make more off you. Oh and they even asked for a 20% tip for all of this nightmare.

So here is how you move. DO NOT USE A MOVING COMPANY, especially not Purple Heart if you do. Go rent yourself a moving van, then pay a handful of buddies say $500 a piece to help you pack up, drive to your new home and unpack. You will save thousands of dollars, less items will be broken, and it will not take a full month to get your items after you arrive in your new home.

Long-distance move from New Mexico to North Carolina

Joseph.

It was a really stressful situation having to move from New Mexico to Maryland. I just got another military and it was time to go home and I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I got there. It was a two and a half day bus ride from Clovis to Baltimore and I was exhausted having to go through the whole process and really just wanted to get it over with. Thank goodness I called these guys. Seriously, they came over packed everything and it was on its way. The professionalism they showed made me feel comfortable letting them handle my stuff. You don't always know what other people are going through so the fact that they were respectful and careful with my things really help me out in time where I was feeling super stressed. I not only recommend this company but I highly recommend this company to anybody.

Long-distance move from Boston, MA to Sugar Land, TX

UTTERLY HORRIBLE: they abandoned the contract unilaterally.

AVOID this HORRIBLE moving group altogether. We had a binding contract set on May 29, 2018 to move a studio from Boston to Houston, $2700, with a set pick-up window and they BAILED, leaving me scrambling now to find assistance in the busiest moving season. It's ridiculous that they aren't fined fees just as a customer would if the roles were reversed- what's the point of this 'BINDING' contract? I truly hope they get punished for unnecessary stress they have caused me and others that I see below.

My move window was supposed to be June 24-26, 2018. After I called and emailed numerous times, they told me the driver would pick up the stuff on June 26, the driver, Isaac with UJ Transport LLC, says 5-6pm. After I reach out to the him numerous times, I finally hear from him at 4:45pm stating that he cannot come to Boston until 9pm. He then proposes to do it first thing in the morning (7am) the following day, the 27th, even though I had to again rearrange my work schedule again. When I called him at 6:40am, he isn't even aware of the job and says he can't do it and to call the company! For the remainder of the day, the Purple Heart including its manager, Makena Rhodes, were incompetent with poor communication and failed to find a replacement driver. Also a FALSE CLAIM on their website: they DO NOT have 24/7 customer service.

We apologize that we were unable to dispatch a truck within your pickup window. We are in our busiest time of the year and we do our best to get all of our jobs serviced. However, there are some circumstances that are out of our control. Our company has offered you a full refund of your deposit and has also provided the option to push back your dates by a few days so we can continue working on getting a truck out to you.
We apologize for the inconveniences and the lack of communication between the carrier and our company has been addressed.
The binding estimate is based off the inventory provided to us, this can change if a customer's inventory increases.
We do have a 24/7 customer service department, we have 2 different extensions for normal business hours and after hours. This information is provided to our customer's immediately after they book their move. Again, we have a full staff but we are in a very busy time right now. If a customer's leaves a voice message with their contact information they will promptly receive a call back.

Long-distance move from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Las Vegas, NV

The worst company in the world. I would give this a 0 Star if I could!

I am filing a complaint against them with the Attorney's General Office. This is truly a "Bait and Switch" scam and they need to be stopped. All they do is scream at you to intimidate you, and they change everything about the payment and how to get paid. If anyone uses this company again, they should have their head examined. The positive reviews have to be false. This is the worst experience in my life. I would never, ever do business with this company of their Van Lines called Vanlines USA. I went to the storage and I will be lucky to have everything delivered and not broken. Moving is stressful enough, this company made it horrible.

Purple Heart provides our customers with estimates based off the inventory which is provided to our moving coordinators. We do our best to ensure the inventory on file is as accurate as possible by going over it multiple times with the moving coordinators as well as our quality assurance department.

The carrier has provided this customer with a discount around $300. Our company has also offered a refund in the amount of $150 which the customer has declined that offer.

Our customer service department has spoken to this customer multiple times and sent over recorded phone calls per his request.

Great company.

I used this company recently for my move to Florida and I am very pleased with the outcome. Their customer service was top notch. They were always willing to answer and explain any questions I had. The pick and delivery went better than expected and I did not have any issues with the condition in which my items arrived. I would use them again if need be and I will be sending their info to any family and friends I know looking to move.

Pleased.

I put my move online and probably got over 50 calls from different people. I spoke to a gentleman at Purple Heart moving and he was very helpful. I am glad I followed my gut feeling. I have moved a few other times and it was a tragic experience. The move went very calm and I stayed informed. The truck drivers and loaders were nice and did not speak a lot. They let my son watch them load and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Everyone I spoke to went above and beyond.
Next time I move, I’ll be doing the same thing. It was easier than expected.

Very Bad Experience.

- Driver very rude.
- Customer Service does not answer phone or return calls.
- They simply lost 3 of my items. The back of my couch (now I have a useless couch), the legs of my office desk (now I have a useless desk) and parts of my daughter's crib.
- Can't give me an ETA of when I will be getting my belongings back.
- Do not use this company if you have other choices.
- Their answer as a broker will most likely be that they have nothing to do with it and that I have to contact the actual movers that they hired.

Long-distance move from Cape Girardeau, MO to Gainesville, FL

Rip Off Company.

My fiance and I were needing to move quickly, I left finding a moving company up to him, and he thought he had found a really great company. They could move his stuff quickly, they walked him through the estimated cost. It was a little pricier than what I would have gone with, but I thought 'hey, if they are able to get everything moved down quickly, it would be worth it.' The original quote was for $2500.
When the movers came, they showed up in a semi, and could not make it up the hill that we lived on. They said that nothing was packed the way that it was 'supposed' to have been, even though we followed the directions from Purple Heart. They then were going to charge us an additional $3000 dollars!. When I found out about this, I said to get our deposit back, we would find a different company. However, according to the guy that was there to move our stuff, we were not able to get our $1000 deposit back, because we signed the paperwork for them to come move our stuff.
Long story short, we begged our family to help us offset the cost because we were now stuck in this contract. They gave us a new quote of $3500, and said they would come back another time with a different truck, but they needed our next payment now.
We handed over the money, different people came the next time, loaded everything up, they were friendly people, hard working, I don't have a single complaint about them.

HOWEVER, we were told by Purple Heart, By the first moving company HQ, and by the third group of people, that our stuff would be there between 3-5 business days.

Day 5 was yesterday, still no contact. We called Purple heart just to see where our stuff was, and they told us they were not sure of its location, but that it would be there within 21 days.

This whole process has been a nightmare. Not only did this process make me never want to use a moving company again, but it has made me never want to go through the process of moving again. I'm not saying that this company is fake, because it is obviously a real company, but it is not a reputable place of character.
There is no transparency at all with this company, and we spent all of our savings just to be ripped off. If you are considering this company, don't.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3500

Official company response

We apologize for the issues you had throughout your move, we have notes on your file from 4/17 that you spoke with our quality assurance manager, Kelly and she went over packing materials with you and wrote a note in your file that you would be doing all packing yourself. She then sent you over the revised estimate after adding 1 item and there was still $0 in packing materials.
After reviewing the paperwork, which was sent to you already, it looks like you had $180.00 in packing materials along with a total of 746 cubic feet. We are still within your delivery window as well, your first available delivery date was 4/24.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service department.

Long-distance move from Sarasota, FL to Nashville, TN

Do not use this company.

This company is a total fraud. Recently had a move from Sarasota Fl. to Nashville TN. Purple Heart misrepresented itself from the beginning -for they are not a moving company they are a moving broker. Yes- they used the same ole line--we hire veterans who need employment. Believe me --they have no veterans because they would not tolerate screwing people like this company does. They out sourced to a company called Ocean Moving of whom were the bait and switch company of all time. Total insult to veterans!!
Looking for the lawyer in Florida to give them a good dose of what its like to get screwed!! My contact is: billmason1108@att.net

PS: All these good reviews have been easily tracked to only several IP addresses---so you know the severity of the screwing your getting if you use them!!

Long-distance move from Pittsburgh, PA to Memphis, TN

Worst move ever.

I have moved many, many times. I have moved internationally and I have moved from one state to another. I have used major moving companies and I have used local moving companies. But never have I had as bad experience as I had recently with Purple Heart moving group. When I called Purple Heart, they told me that they support veterans and that veterans were often involved in the moving process and I was very pleased to think that I would be supporting a company that helps veterans in the U.S. when it came time for my things to be packed up however I was greeted by two men originally from Bosnia who works for a company out of St. Louis Missouri called five star movers and they informed me that they were going to pack me on Sunday and then load There rented a Penske’s truck on Monday, Memorial day, and then meet me in my destination city two days later. This was far more rush than I had originally planned and it was very upsetting to have to organize everything at my end so quickly. Their justification was that they had another job immediately after dropping off my things and they were in a hurry. They went to Home Depot and bought boxes which they use to pack me. They charge me not by weight as I have usually been charged in the past, but by volume. So, they made sure there was plenty of open space and large boxes by not filling them all the way so that the volume of the move would be increased. They kept the weight lighter by not using much packing paper. Miraculously, they were careful to load the boxes onto the truck and nothing was damaged inside the boxes except for one glass. As for the furniture, I can’t say the same. They didn’t know how to wrap furniture properly nor did they know how to pack the truck to keep the furniture safe. As a result, two legs on a hall table were broken off. My dining room table has nicks on the corners on one end. When attempting to carry a wardrobe down the stairs of my originating house, they damage the wall and scrapes the front of the wardrobe with sheet rock. The lead mover’s attitude was “no big deal” And he even commented that the whole table was old and made of cheap wood. It happened to be about 20 years old and from Baker, a very fine American furniture manufacturer and he even commented that the whole table was old and made of cheap wood. It happened to be about 20 years old and from Baker, a very fine American furniture manufacture. A Sony flat panel TV that was working before I left is no longer working in my destination home. The error message I’m getting indicates a problem with the internal board. The movers complained when reassembling a set of oak bunkbeds and then handed me some of the screws, informing me that it was sufficiently sturdy as they have done it. All attempts that I have made to try to unscrew what they’ve done in order to properly assembled the bunkbeds have completely failed. I don’t know what they did to put those screws in, but I cannot get them to move. This is a set of bunkbeds I have taken apart and reassembled multiple times. When the movers left in a big hurry so they can get to their next job that they were in such a big rush to get to, they handed me paperwork and said “call the company and they’ll give you a form to fill out to get reimbursed for the damage.“ When I called five star moving group today, I was told that I could be paid no more than $.60 per pound per item that had been damaged. At the time of the move, I thought that the $.60 per pound was if everything was lost in the move that would be the coverage. I had no idea he referred to specific damage done to the furniture. That was because the movers paid no attention to really going over the details of the move because they were always in such a big rush. And a customer, at that point, can’t slow things down because it’s time to get on the road and get moving. The customer is essentially stuck in this case these were very unprofessional individuals handling my move. Purple Heart moving group is rated number three among best moving companies in the United States. But if they pass on their jobs to these other very unprofessional and poorly managed moving companies, their reputation cannot stand. I am severely disappointed that I chose to use them and I would never recommend them to anyone else.

Purple Heart has sent this customer all of her paperwork from the carrier as well as offered a refund in the amount of $250.00 on June 29th, which the customer has not responded to.

We would be happy to review the carrier agreement that we have with her carrier to our dispatch department.

We do not handle claims but would be happy to provide the claims information for the carrier to the customer as well so she can be reimbursed for anything damaged, missing or broken. Our contract states all moves are included with standard cargo protection which is up to $10,000 at the reimbursement rate of $0.60 per pound, per article. Additional insurance would need to be purchased prior to pickup from a third party.

Updating original review from April 5, 2017.

Since I posted my poor review, Jessica the CEO of Purple Heart contacted me and has already refunded my original deposit and the $150 extra the driver made my daughter pay at delivery.

She has apologized to me and said that she would attempt to give me a full refund once she received my final payment from the carrier, and would follow through on our damage and loss claim. Jessica also told me that Purple Heart has discontinued their contract with their carrier Swift.

I believe that PH will follow through on their commitment to make things right and when that happens I will remove the earlier review.

Poor.

This is the kind of company that gives moving brokers a bad name. We have made numerous moves over the years and this is the first time I have ever been scammed out of a $500 deposit when our move got changed on us. Contacting customer service has been a nightmare. The window for canceling and getting any kind of refund is 72 hours. Honestly, if a move is booked, with a deposit, and gets changed after 72 hours but still weeks before the scheduled move there has to be a reason for the cancellation. If you are military and your move has the potential to be rearranged on you please do not consider using this company. My father is a purple heart veteran, the name alone to me represents trust/respect which was what prompted my initial call to them, from my experience they have completely misrepresented themselves.
If you are not 100% sure your move will not be changed call someone else, unless you have money you don't mind throwing away.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $7000

Official company response

I apologize that you feel this way about our company. If you do some research on the industry you will find that typically brokers take 30% of the total move cost as a deposit which would have been a $2,100.00 loss in your case. we took less than 10% because We do not operate that way as we are not in the business of "scamming" customers whatsoever. Very similar to an airline ticket or hotel reservation there are non-refundable deposits after a certain period of time, this is not an unheard of thing. We are still and always willing to move you whenever you would like. Your deposit is good for you move for 12 months from the cancellation. Every company has a cancellation policy in the moving industry, I apologize that ours policy is not what you now agree to since you need to cancel. However, it was fully disclosed to you and agreed to at the time of booking.

Please call us in the future if you would like to continue your move in the future.

Great Experience.

Purple Heart Moving group’s customer service was spot on! They stuck to their word and stayed in contact with us. Our delivery men were careful and attentive, and all of our belongings arrived in tact. Their professionalism really won us over, because we’ve used moving companies in the past and Purple Heart Moving Group was by far the best experience we’ve had. My husband works in the entertainment industry, so we have been moving around quite a bit. I’d recommend this company to anyone that appreciates professionalism, great customer service, and wants all of their belongings to arrive in one piece. My husband and I will be using Purple Heart Moving Group again in the future! Thank you so much again Purple Heart Moving Group!

Good experience.

I used Purple Heart Moving Group when I moved out of state. I had a great experience with this company. Scheduling the movers was quick and easy, and their services were very affordable. The movers arrived on time and were extremely helpful. They listened to my requests and followed my directions very well. Overall, they were very careful with my belongings, especially when moving the furniture and the boxes that contained fragile items. They made sure I was okay with everything throughout the move and paid attention to my feedback. I felt comfortable knowing my belongings were in good hands and that everything would be in good condition once I arrived at my new home. I’m very happy with the way the move turned out. I would definitely request their services again.

Excellent, professional service. We made a last minute booking the day before the move and everyone was more than accommodating. By the following afternoon all our stuff was moved in the space of 30 minutes down 3 flights of stairs. Bed was wrapped in plastic at no extra charge, staff were all very polite and friendly. And even shuffled furniture around for us at the new place to get it exactly where we wanted it. Wonderful service, we will definitely be using this company for all our moves. Great experience!

Purple Heart Moving Group made a potentially excruciating experience much easier than it could have been. They were communicative from the beginning of our interaction, and answered any questions that we had. I was particularly stressed as this was my first long move, but it turned out to pass right by uneventfully. Once I got to my destination, I inspected all of my belongings quite thoroughly and saw that they must have taken great care while handling them. Everything arrived in one piece, and they had even taken enough care to provide extra wrapping for my valuables without our requesting it. This obvious care for other people’s possessions, coupled with their immaculate customer service, made this a perfect moving experience. If I ever have to move again, I will be certain to use this moving company again.

You cannot trust the reviews on this company.

If you use these movers you need to be aware of several things:

1. They are not movers, they are brokers. They will send a random moving company out to move your things. you will not know who it is in advance, you will not see reviews for this company and you will not have a choice.

2. They will discourage you from getting an in-home estimate, so that they can low-ball you over the phone. I gave detailed descriptions of my belongings over the phone, including measurements, and on moving day was told I owed $2000 more than the detailed estimate, which of course was $3000 more than what they originally quoted me.

3. The estimate they give you is completely non-binding and therefore useless. You will see this in the small print of the estimate.

4. MAKE SURE YOU GET REPLACEMENT VALUE insurance. The movers literally dumped my things into boxes, resulting in several damaged items.

5. Purple Heart will tell you that your items will be delivered 7-10 days from pick-up, but then the mover will tell you that it is 7-10 days FROM THE EARLIEST DELIVERY DATE that you give them. So instead of getting things at the earliest date possible, you get them about 3 weeks after they were picked up..

Last but not least, if you complain about any of this, they will offer you a nominal refund (they offered me less than 1% of the full cost of the move), and ask you to sign a nondisclosure agreement! Obviously, I refused to sign.

Fast online support and even faster move!

I was absolutely dreading moving back home to North Carolina, to live with my parents for a few months before moving into my new Charlotte apartment. Besides the fact that I would be living at home, the idea of moving my belongings over 600 miles haunted my dreams prior to moving day. Luckily, I came across the Purple Heart Moving Group. As soon as I went on their site they pushed me to call their customer support instead of meandering around the site. In less than "9 seconds," I was talking to one of their cordial agents who guided me through the site and gave me a quote over the phone. On moving day, I was anxious that they wouldn't be able to pack my belongings fast enough, leaving me to put in as much work as them while also feeding the movers throughout the long, hot day. In not even four hours my whole place was packed and on the truck. We drove the 10 hours and change to Charlotte and were all done by sundown. When I was a kid my family moved about the same distance as we had just accomplished, but our movers took two days (they lied and said one day) and scratched up all of our furniture. That experience made me naturally fearful of how Purple Heart would perform. Happy to say they completely blew my expectations.

Interstate move from Mississippi to South Carolina.

This is by far one of the best companies I have used for moving. I originally used them to help move my Aunt from Mississippi to South Carolina. I have had numerous bad experiences with moving companies before. I feel that Purple Heart gave me a customized experience. My aunt is elderly and has a lot of antiques and valuable property. Once the company showed up and she was able to talk with the guys, she was more comfortable letting them move her belongings. She is very picky, so I know that those guys had to have patience to deal with her. Anyway, long story short, Once the movers had everything moved in she was very satisfied with her property not being damaged. I really appreciate the service this company provides they take a personal approach and make you feel comfortable letting them handle your property, and they are very professional at doing their job. Thanks.

Picking the Purple Heart Moving Group was a great decision for my long distance relocation. This company had great customer service both on the phone and in person. They assisted me in moving from start to finish. They completed to process effectively and efficiently. They addressed all my concerns about moving and and treated my things carefully and respectfully. I would always worry about something happening to my belongings especially fragile items. With Purple Heart, I didn’t have to be concerned about damages or fragile items. They packed everything properly to ensure all my things were taken care of. I was amazed how such a complex task was completed fast and thoroughly. All the movers were polite and patient as they addressed all my questions and concerns with the process. Amazing moving group must use.

Purple Heart Moving Group is such a great moving company. If not one of the best moving companies around. I have moved so many times due to a demanding lifestyle and have found that purple heart moving group is one of the best I have ever used. Especially for a long distance move, this company is top notch. I have been so ecstatic with this company, especially how great their customer service is. Not only is their customer service absolutely phenomenal, they are so professional in every manner. The workers, the management have all been so helpful especially in these stressful times of life. Long distance moving companies can be so difficult to work with, and it can be extremely complicated, very expensive, so of course I was nervous at first. Take my words though when I say you couldn't get better than Purple Heart Moving Group. From the start you will be ultimately satisfied. I am so grateful for this company and how they have been so kind to me and my family. Thank you Purple Heart Moving Group.

I recently moved from Arkansas to Maryland for my first job out of college. I was nervous about the move because I was having to do it all on my own; I didn't really know what to expect.

Picking Purple Heart was a great decision. They were very understanding and explained the whole process to me. When the time came, they made everything easy.

As a young person, I don't have many traditional valuables. However, I have a lot of expensive medical equipment such as my backup wheelchair and specialty bed that would have been a nightmare to replace. They were very careful, and everything made it to my new apartment in great condition.

I was able to start my new job without being stressed from the move.

Long-distance move from Ridgeland, MS to Corona, CA

Should be closed.

This is the worst moving company ever, when they want your business they burn your phone up calling. When it was time for me to move no one came to pick my stuff up, when I called to question the driver He was so rude and even cursed me. When I tried to call Melissa the individual who call every 30 minutes to get my money and my business she won’t answer her phone answer. I reported them to the better business bureau. They did nothing to try to help me move my items just stop answering the telephone oh and they were fine my money back in my account without me even though I know respect extremely rude should be close down whatever.

Long-distance move from Glenview, IL to Phoenix, AZ

Don't make the mistake of using Purple Heart movers.

One of the biggest mistakes of my life was choosing Purple Heart Movers.
From the very beginning, I did not have the communication I was promised. They did not return my calls. The original estimate escalated from 5k, to 9k to almost 12k by the time our household was delivered to our destination. The Sub-contractor they hired to unload the truck did not complete the job, leaving most of the boxes in the garage. When I followed up with the Sub Contractor, I was screamed at and hung up on. Boxes were crushed in the delivery truck and many items were broken.
